“Language is the road map of a culture”

My name is Eric Zhai, and I am a high school student at Melbourne Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia. I was born in China and then moved to Australia with my family in 2023. My passion for cultural anthropology stems from my experiences of travel with my family, which exposed me to a wide variety of cultures and customs. These experiences made me realize that people living in different parts of the world have developed unique ways of living shaped by their environments, traditions, and histories.
Culture involves shared beliefs, practices, values, and behaviors that define a community or society; it influences how people interact, express their minds, and view the world. Having lived in both Australia and China, I have developed a deep understanding of the cultural differences between the two countries, including ways of communication, social values, and traditions.
Furthermore, learning Japanese as my second language enhances my insights into Japanese culture as well as its way of life. These explorations have strengthened my belief in the significance of embracing cultural diversity and learning from human experience worldwide.
